Lord Helix Makes A Most Unexpected Return In 'Twitch Plays Pokémon'

It’s not what you’re thinking. Heck, it’s probably not what you’re expecting, either. Silver, you can face off against Red—the protagonist and champion of Pokémon Red. Normally, Red is supposed to have a Pikachu, an Espeon, a Snorlax, a Venusaur, a Charizard, and a Blastoise. A pretty formidable super team, no? The Red that Twitch Plays Pokémon found does not have this team. Instead, this is what players saw the first time they faced off against Red: Zapdos? What’s Zapdos doing here? Guess what. Red’s team is actually Twitch’s original team, back when they first beat Pokemon Red—complete with Helix, Bird Jesus, ATV, and the rest of our old pals: (Image courtesy of this Google doc.) Here’s Twitch’s current team, for comparison’s sake: Amusingly enough, the first time Twitch players faced off against this new version of Red, they couldn’t win.
